HOGESCHOOL GENT departement Biot

Hogeschool is an education centre in biotechnology, landscape, arquitecture and agriculture. The structure provides basic and advanced courses in Chemist Engineering, food microbiology, and food technology, specially in dairy, meat and cereals industries.
The microbiology laboratories are equipped with basic and modern infrastructures, biotechnology installations, with the possibility and the knowledge to make analysis in hygiene during food production, in special in dairy products and pathogenic detection. The institute owns a technological part with a centre of dairy industries, with all the necessary technologies to produce cheese, yoghurt, powder milk and butter in a pilot scale.
The department provides services to industries like quality control and technical assistance. They have a good scientific knowledge and enough experience in dairy products technologies, HACCP and risk analysis, as well as, hygiene courses. This unit participates in a big training network and updating of the medium and technical grades of the industry people. They participate in SOCRATES programme and in other international projects in dairy area. This centre is a member of Europel.
